Every project is a unique experience, full of lessons and insights.”
Eighteen Canvases
Currently in process, this series will be highlighting the faces of minority in Mendocino County. My aim is to bring images of marginalized people, especially women, into focus within the white, Euro-centric, rural community where I live. These faces are not at all well represented in our cultural and artistic spaces, and I want to address this deficit by turning the reigning image hierarchy--white on top, other ethnicities below--on its head. However, my aim is not primarily politically motivated. The truth is, I love all human faces, and I have not encountered one that I did not want to paint. These pictures will revealed beginning in the fall of 2022.

ESSENCE Project 2019
Eleanore D. Wilson Museum, Hollins University, Roanoke, Virginia
In collaboration with choreographer Eryn Schon-Brunner, this interactive multimedia installation examines the nature of being by juxtaposing portraits of a single subject in various media: painted portraits, choreography, and kinetic sculpture. Portraits documented the impression of a person's essence captured in the layers of paint in real time during the gallery openings.

Nor-Cal Series 2010-2019
When he and his family moved to Mendocino County in 2009, Jeffrey was captivated by the people of Northern California. This series of portraits is the beginning of his "works in process" explorations. Embracing the idea that an unfinished painting can also be complete, Jeff permitted himself to stop in the middle of the painting process in order to preserve the significance of the image in the moment.

L.A. Portrait Project 2001-2009
Exploring the age-old tradition of portraiture--model in front of artist--Jeffrey captures in layers of oil paint the life force in the faces and bodies of Los Angelenos between 2001-2009. Some portraits in this collection were commissioned and shown in galleries in Southern and Northern California.
